Everton Football Club:

Everton Football Club originated in 1878 under the name of Saint Domingo Football Club, which strived to provide the local Methodist chapel members with sport. In order to attract a larger fanbase, in 1879, the club's name was altered to Everton Football Club, creating one of the world's largest football institutions.

Everton played at current rivals Liverpool's stadium, Anfield, before the Red side of Merseyside was created in 1892 due to disputes regarding the rent of the ground. The owner of the land, John Houlding, wanted to increase the 100-pound rent to 250 pounds. whereas the club was only willing to pay a slight increase due to the club becoming more popular. Due to this, the Blues built their own stadium, Goodison Park. The first game in the new stadium was played on the 24th of August, 1892, in a 4-2 victory over Bolton Wanderers.

Throughout the 132 years at Goodison Park, Everton has been extremely successful, winning nine first division league titles, five FA Cups, two league championships, and a European Cup in 1985, where a 3-1 comeback versus Bayern Munich in the second leg of the semi-final led to a 3-1 win in the final against Rapid Vienna. However, soon Everton will be moving to a new stadium, Bramley Moore Dock (pictured: credit @stephen_jones_photography_). The 52,888-seater will spark a new era for Everton, as in recent years, the Toffees, a nickname originated from the competition of two toffee shops in the local area, have been struggling towards the bottom of the table. The Friedkin Group has recently taken over from Farhad Moshiri, whose reign has been unsuccessful, with poor finances leading to an initial 10-point deduction in November 2023. An appeal reduced the punishment to 6, but for manager Sean Dyche it was tough to cope with, especially as two months later a two-point deduction was imposed, but in the end the Blues managed to stay up. Bramley Moore dock's naming rights are set to be sold, as well as it hosting games for the 2028 European championships and a possible future venue for NFL fixtures.
